What is Delta 10 THC & Does It Get You High?

You may already be aware of Delta-8 THC and Delta-9 THC; both are psychoactive compounds belonging to the cannabis family. Delta-9 is a more widely known substance that people have used for centuries.

With cannabinoids gaining legality, more and more such compounds are being introduced in the cannabis market. One such discovery is a mysterious cannabinoid called Delta 10 THC.

Although Delta 10 was an accidental discovery, it still caught scientist’s attention due to its rare chemical formation.

Till now, this cannabinoid is yet to be completely unraveled. However, even with the limited information, there are so many exciting dimensions to it.

Let’s look at what is Delta 10 tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and what’s all the fuss about it actually.

What is Delta 10 THC?

A more recent find, Delta 10 is one of the tons of cannabinoids found in the hemp plant. It is closely related to Delta 8 and Delta 9 THC in terms of effects.

However, it is way less potent than other major cannabinoids such as CBG, CBD, and Delta 9 THC.

Unlike the major cannabinoids, Delta 10 THC is found in extremely low concentrations. Hence, it requires an exhaustive amount of time to extract it naturally. It is also the reason why scientists know very little about it yet.

Weird and Wonderful Beginning of Delta 10

Like its structure, the origin of Delta 10 THC is also one of a kind. It existed in the world without anyone knowing for a long time.

It first came to the scene when a cannabis company, Fusion Farms, in California bought outdoor-grown cannabis for their ongoing experimentation on Delta 9.

The company had no idea that the fire retardants had spoiled the marijuana biomass. Therefore, they moved on with the extraction process.

It was only after the distillation of the plant when they observed the formation of some unprecedented crystals.

After analyzing the crystals, they referred to them as Cannabichromene (CBC) even though the crystals didn’t exactly imitate CBC.

To clarify, the scientists then put the obscure substances through high-quality lab testing known as High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC). After research for many months, they concluded the compound wasn’t CBC but a THC variant.

As a last resort, a sample of crystals was analyzed by Nuclear Management Resonance (NMR). The spectral study showed it to be Delta 10 THC.

To tell the truth, fire retardants were a big reason for Delta 10’s creation. However, today the companies develop Delta 10 THC through clean, green, and food-grade processing.

How Does Delta 10 Affect Endocannabinoid System?

Right now, it is hard to conclude the effects of Delta 10 on our body exactly. However, the brief research at hand suggests that it modifies our endocannabinoid system similar to Delta 8 and Delta 9.

Delta 10 connects to the CB1 and CB2 nerve receptors in our brain like its cousin cannabinoids. Still, why it attaches to these receptors remains a mystery.

The lack of extensive research on this compound is due to strict rules confining it. All the information about its effects on our body is mere speculation as of now.

Does Delta 10 Get You High?

Simply put, yes, Delta 10 can get you high. Owing to its affinity with Delta 8 and Delta 9, it produces psychoactive effects.

Preliminary research suggests that Delta 10 THC gets pigeons high just like other cannabinoids. However, there are no studies on humans yet.

Although Delta 9 is the most potent of all cannabinoids, users may also feel paranoia and anxiety while consuming it. Therefore, Delta 10 can be its suitable replacement as it is as effective.

Many also associate Delta 10 THC with stimulating and euphoric highs that increase productivity, artistry, and focus. Also, coupling with other cannabis extracts such as terpenes and flavonoids can enhance entourage effects.

Lastly, you can perceive Delta 10 as Delta 9 without the harsh effects. It produces a high that keeps you active, alert, and calm throughout the day.

The Legality of Delta 10

Under Federal Laws

Ambiguity still lies about the legal status of Delta 10. However, thanks to the Farm Bill 2018, it is legal in 38 states.

The Farm Bill 2018 specifies that Delta 10 is legal federally if extracted from industrial hemp containing less than 0.3% THC. If the THC amount exceeds the prescribed limit, it falls under schedule 1 of the Controlled Substances Act (CSA) as a banned item.

Therefore, it has legal protection under federal laws and is subject to state laws.

Drug Enforcement Agency

This is where Delta 10 THC enters a legal grey area. Despite it having federal assent, DEA still questions the legality of hemp-based THC variants, including Delta 8 and Delta 10.

In 2020, DEA released a final interim order placing all the synthetically derived THC variants under schedule 1 of CSA. However, it did not define “synthetically derived” in its order.

Delta 10 Products

It is difficult to find various Delta 10 THC products yet due to specific research and legal limitations.

Hopefully, in the near future, you will be able to enjoy the following Delta 10 products:

Vape

Like other cannabis products, you can also consume Delta 10 THC by inhaling. The effects of vaping will be the quickest but short-timed too.

Edibles

A variety of options, such as gummies and chocolate bars, will allow you to eat Delta 10. Although edibles take the longest to show effects, they are long-lasting too.

Sublingual Ingestion

When taking Delta 10 sublingually, you must keep the oil drops under the tongue for at least 20 minutes.

Topicals

You may also be able to apply Delta 10 oil or creams on the skin to get instant effects.
