4 Smart Ways to Choose the Best Natural Remedy Product For You

It’s almost a norm for counterfeit products to creep in once an industry starts to take off. We’ve seen it happening to the luxury accessories and cosmetics industries. Now, the CBD market is facing the same fate.

While it doesn’t always impact the industry as a whole, it surely leaves the customers confused about the right product to buy. Is hemp seed oil the same as CBD oil? Are the products mentioned on the label even present inside the product?

Questions like this are likely to pop up in consumers’ minds. So in this guide, we aim to resolve all these queries about CBD products, equipping you with sufficient knowledge about cannabidiol.

After all, the first rule for getting CBD benefits is to choose a quality product.

4 Tips for Choosing the Best CBD Products

Marijuana plants.

All CBD products are indeed different. Some work faster, while others may take some time. However, the difference should only be limited to the product’s inherent features rather than its effectiveness.

Let’s discuss four tips that will make it easier for you to know what is in CBD products and what are the best CBD products for you.

1. Know the Potencies

The concentration of a CBD product is determined by the amount of cannabidiol present in it. The higher the concentration, the better and quicker the action will be.

However, the highest concentration doesn’t automatically become the right one for you.

You have to select the potency depending on the condition you’re suffering from. For example, if you merely want CBD oil for general wellbeing, a dosage of 250mg will be suitable for you.

However, you can’t expect it to have a prominent effect on epilepsy or anxiety. For that, you’ll need a more concentrated oil.

Typically, CBD products fall into the following categories:

  • Low Concentration: These products usually range from 250 to 500mg. You can determine the dose per serving by dividing the concentration by the liquid present in a bottle. For instance, if a bottle has 300mg of CBD and 30ml of oil, each ml will have 10mg of CBD.
  • Moderate Concentration: The medium-strength oils range from 1000mg to 2000mg per bottle. Since they have a moderate concentration, these products are suitable for more concerning ailments, such as migraines and anxiety.
  • High Concentration: These CBD products range from 2500mg to 5000mg per container. You should only buy them if you’ve been an avid CBD user in the past. Plus, these CBD products are more expensive and suitable for grave conditions like Multiple sclerosis.

2. Choose the Type

When we said that all CBD products are different, we weren’t merely referring to the concentrations. Companies also use differently-processed hemp extracts for curating varying formulations.

There are three varieties of CBD available right now. When you know about these varieties, you will know how to choose the right CBD product in your case.

CBD Isolate

The CBD isolate products are crystalline solid or powder that is refined to the purest form of CBD. It only contains cannabidiol, separated from all other compounds and substances, for a formulation with 95% to 99% CBD content.

Unlike full-spectrum CBD, the isolated variety does not contain THC that has psychoactive effects. Hence, CBD isolate is ideal for people who want to use CBD in its purest form, without the interference of those extra ingredients.

Some people believe that CBD isolate is the purest and hence the safest to use. However, keep in mind that it is highly processed to reach its pure form.

Broad-Spectrum CBD

Broad-spectrum hemp extract contains phytocannabinoids, terpenes, minor cannabinoids, and flavonoids. The only cannabinoid missing in these products is THC, which is why companies label them THC-free.

While this variety does not contain THC, the other compounds present in the extraction may produce heightened effects. This is a result of the “entourage effect,” a process in which cannabis compounds work together to produce the psychoactive effects of the plants.

Full-Spectrum CBD

Lastly, full-spectrum CBD products are made using whole plant extract. Hence, these products contain various cannabis plant extracts, including essential oils, terpenes, and other cannabinoids, such as cannabinol.

The full-spectrum variety also contains up to 0.3% THC, the CBD-active ingredient responsible for psychoactive effects. However, the amount found in the products is minimal and will not cause a heightened effect.

In fact, research suggests that CBD may work better when combined with some amount of THC due to the “entourage effect” —the idea that these compounds work better in groups. However, there remain many unanswered questions on this subject. Plus, only a small amount of THC may be needed to enhance the therapeutic effect of CBD.

The THC levels remain below 0.3% in CBD products because that’s the limit specified by the 2018 Farm Bill. However, the FDA warns that some companies mislead their customers by varying THC amounts inside the product while specifying 0.3% on the labels.

3. Read Product Labels

The labels give a lot of information about what is in CBD products, regardless of their type and category. You can see labels on the CBD products as the FDA has made it mandatory for manufacturers to specify the CBD concentration and THC content on the label.

Here are a few things to look for on a label:

CBD Concentration

Make sure that the product label shows the exact concentration of what is in CBD products, especially the CBD inside the formula. If a label has vague specifications like “extra strength” or “high content,” the product might include a high concentration of compounds other than CBD and THC.

While those other compounds may be beneficial, the product might not contain a significant amount of CBD inside.

Lab Testing

The label will also have the batch number. You can use this to check the lab report for that particular batch on the company’s website. You may also ask the company for the product’s COA to see the tests performed for checking the CBD and THC levels.

Knowing the levels of these chemicals are more important if you want to avoid a particular product, such as THC. The concentration of specific compounds is also necessary to determine the effectiveness of a product.

If a retailer does not provide this information, it is better to avoid their products.

CBD or Hemp Oil

Some labels may also indicate that the product includes or comes from “hemp oil.” Sometimes, that means CBD oil which is made from the leaves rich in CBD. However, it might also refer to oil made from the plant’s seeds that contains low amounts of CBD.

Total CBD Content

Some labels also specify the total CBD content. Make sure to read this to get a rough idea of how long the product will last.

4. Don’t Fall for Misleading Claims

The CBD industry is booming, and everyone wants a piece of this cake. For that, some companies advertise their products with misleading claims.

These claims are legal only for prescription drugs that undergo extensive lab testing. Hence, the more dramatic the claims on CBD products, the more careful you have to be.

Sure enough, there’s research to prove some CBD benefits. However, not a single study shows that CBD is a cure for anything. But you’ll find some products online that come with the promise of helping you get rid of insomnia or anxiety forever.

Don’t fall for such ridiculous claims, as science does not back them.

Another trick some companies use is merely writing the total CBD content on the label rather than the serving size. In doing so, they trick you into believing that you’re getting more CBD.

However, a 500mg CBD oil will have 500mg of cannabidiol, irrespective of a 15ml or 30ml bottle. So, a 30ml bottle might sound like a lot of CBD, but each serving size has less CBD than a 15ml bottle. This means you need to take more servings of the 30ml oil to get the same result as one serving of the 15ml tincture.

As the FDA doesn’t regulate the cannabinoid yet, you’re on your own in terms of quality determination. Keeping this in consideration, you must ensure that you’re only purchasing CBD products from reliable companies.

Different Forms of CBD

CBD can be used in different ways depending on the reason of use, required dosage, and the result in view. The common forms of CBD are:

  • Oils and tinctures: CBD oils are made from CBD and any carrier oil. CBD tinctures are alcohol-based extracts. Both can take the oil directly or add it to your food or drink.
  • Capsules: CBD oil capsules and pills are round or cylindrical-shaped supplements containing a specific CBD dosage. They are most convenient and easy to administer.
  • Gummies: The CBD candies are infused with cannabidiol and come in different sizes and concentrations.
  • Topicals: These are mainly for localized pains and skin conditions. Their effectiveness varies with the potency and the overall quality of the product.

Conclusion

Now that people know sufficiently about CBD benefits, they’re interested in buying CBD-infused products. However, the number of CBD products for sale seems to be increasing exponentially with every passing day.

Therefore, it’s imperative to take the right approach when selecting a CBD product for daily use. In this article, we’ve explained some tips that you can use when shopping for CBD products online.
